For the synthesis of the drug ketoconazole, itraconazole.
production method
The piperazine hexahydrate can be first condensed with p-nitrochlorobenzene to form 1-(4-nitrophenyl)piperazine. It is then reacted with acetic anhydride to give 1-acetyl-4-(4-nitrophenyl)piperazine which is reduced, diazotized and hydrolyzed by the nitro group.
